Billing and A/R Specialist Position

Summary of Duties:

Conducts Insurance follow-up of claims 45+ days in aging. Contacts insurance for claims status, researches account issues and submits appeals as necessary.

  • Assist with worker’s compensation, motor vehicle accident and mental health claims follow-up.   
  • Set up patient accounts for mental health claims, check mental health benefits. 
  • Verify insurance benefits as needed for claims submission. 
  • Bill secondary insurances with primary explanation of benefits attached.  
  • Make corrections to claims, re-file to secure payment, and file appeals to insurance companies as needed. 
  • Answer calls from patients and insurance companies and resolve payment issues.  
  • Process patient credit/debit card payments.
  • Process payment conveyances to clear credit balances as needed to keep accounts current. 
  • Assist with processing of monthly patient statements.  
  • Post insurance payments as needed. 
  • Verify new patient and physical benefits as needed.  
  • Understands and supports the office’s HIPAA privacy practices. Maintains strictest confidentiality.      
  • Participates in professional development activities maintains professional affiliations and promotes staff interactions.   
  • Monitors and collects on outstanding insurance claims that have not been paid within 6 weeks of filing.  
  • Performs other billing office duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of general principles of medical office billing, including verification and posting of charges, procedure and diagnoses coding, A/R follow-up and insurance and patient collections. Show documented skills in using a computer, practice management system, MS office applications, ten key and calculator. Show documented ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness. Able to problem solve, communicate clearly, and work effectively with patients, coworkers and the public.

Education:

  • High school diploma (required)
  • Medical terminology (preferred) 
  • Documentation of participation in procedure coding and diagnosis coding classes (preferred)

Experience:

  • Previous work in health care field required, preferably in a clinic setting 
  • Prior experience with CPT & ICD-10 billing (preferred)
  • Prior experience with workers compensation billing and denials (preferred)
  • Experience with Centricity PM (preferred)

Nursing

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)


Seeking a professional and friendly qualified certified medical assistant (CMA) with a minimum of two years experience

Duties include: 

  • Greeting and preparing patients for medical examination.
  • Screening patients for appropriate information.
  • Maintains and updates patient information as necessary. 
  • Prepares equipment and assist provider during examination.
  • Instructs patients according to providers directions.
  • Clean and restock exam rooms as appropriate between patients.
  • Assists providers in completing medical record documentation as directed.
  • Oversees providers appointment schedule. 
  • Performs telephone follow up.
  • Assist providers as required and directed. 

Experience with triage of patient phone calls necessary. Knowledge of HIPAA required and a knowledge of Centricity would be helpful but not required.
